About Us

1,000 Mile Walk was founded to encourage and help people to start walking and be healthy. The commitment and endurance of the brisk walk promote metabolism of the tissues, using up the blood sugar and body fats as fuel, balancing the body weight and other crucial physiology.

1,000 Mile Walk moderately increases the heart rate and causes mild perspiration. By placing body weight on the bones with each step, walking stimulates bone metabolism and may prevent osteoporosis. It can also contribute to the balancing of the cholesterol levels and blood pressure if also committed to healthy eating and resting habits.

Walking can be fun activity as well. People can walk together and enjoy the friendship.
1,000 Mile Walk encourages people to form a group and enjoy walking together. Each team will be consisted of 5 walkers. Each team of five will walk total of 1,000 miles in the following 25 weeks, starting from May 9, 2010. By doing so, each member will have walked about 8 miles each week, or, each team will have walked 40 miles per week.

Each team members do not have to walk together but walk individually or together. It is
recommended that each member walks at least three times each week, and about 30-60minutes each day. However, the team leader should collect the ‘miles walked’ from the team members each month and post the team scores (miles walked) on the 1,000 Mile Walk website each week.

1,000 Mile Walk is not a fund-raising activity. This is strictly a promotion for health and happiness. Anyone who is interested can join and enjoy. One can also form a network with out-of-town friends to form a group of 5 or 10 and start walking and connecting.

Fun event will include Walk at the Park on Sunday afternoon in summer as will be announced on the website. At the end of the 25 weeks of walking, there will be a Grand Certificate Award Ceremony on November 7, 2009.

Enjoy walking and send us fun stories or pictures along the way. Good luck, be happy & healthy!
